The Basics

Post by Guest on Mon May 05, 2008 3:16 am

I thought id post something to tell inexperienced players about the basics of competitive fighting, taking it right down to STAB and matchups etc.

There is a type matchup list.
There is a more complicated one on Serebii (under game mechanics section)

STAB
Same Type Attack Bonus. Any pokemon that uses a move that is the same type as itself (ie. Infernape using flamethrower) gets a boost of the move that is 1.5. So if Lucario used Close Combat (usually 120 Power) it is boosted to 180 power. If super effective (as seen above) it becomes 360 and if 4x super effective it is 720. Wow.

Weather
Weather has a huge part in competitive battling. Let's go in depth.
Rain - Rain boosts the power of water moves by 1.5. It's like a second STAB! Also in rain Thunder has 100% accuracy and has a 50% chance of breaking through the moves protect and detect. It also doubles the speed of pokemon with the ablity swift swim.

MORE WEATHER STUFF SOON. when i can be bothered..

More posted when i have time
